AI in the workplace 

What is the impact of Artificial Intelligence in the workplace? Artificial Intelligence in the workplace is questionable. These AI bots are not taking everyone’s best interest into account. The AI has no real feelings or connection to people in workplaces. Robots are not able to connect to humanity or to even understand the human world and the challenges people face every day. Some workplaces have these bots that disregard resumes due to what they are designed to think who will be helpful for the job or will not. Is this strategy actually working in the workplace? There are many capable people who may not have gotten looked at by a workplace due to these robots. What if the robot doesn’t understand what is actually written on the resume because they just cannot relate to humanity? Isn’t it just best to have future workers present their resume in person with the manager along with an interview like they have before there was technology and before technology got so “artificially intelligent” with these AI bots? It’s best for people to be able to go into the workplace and present their resumes along with an interview so that the workplace can actually get a real feel of the future employer as a person. Anybody can be accepted by the bots but come in for an interview and get turned down because their personality doesn’t fit or because they’re just really not a great fit for that specific workplace overall. People shouldn’t miss out on a good opportunity or a dream in their future workplace when they’re in fact capable just because these robots are disregarding their resumes. 

  As AI continues to transform the job market, certain skills will be in high demand as AI advances. These include data analysis, programming, and critical thinking. Jobs that require creativity or human interaction such as teaching or counseling are less likely to be automated. “Certain companies, such as McDonald’s and Chipotle, have been experimenting with artificial intelligence robots in their drive-thrus. Though not advanced enough to successfully imitate a human customer service worker, these examples suggest you may one day see AI replace most workers in this field.” (“Artificial Intelligence Jobs: How Will AI Change the Job Market? – Forbes”). However, there are concerns about the potential impact of AI on the workforce. Many fear that AI will lead to widespread job displacement and a widening income gap between those who have skills that cannot be automated and those who do not. 

The rise of artificial intelligence and automation has significant implications for the future of work. Many routine and low-skill jobs are at high risk of being automated, which could lead to significant job displacement and economic disruption. At the same time, however, AI and automation also have the potential to create new job opportunities and increase productivity in a variety of industries. For example, machine learning algorithms can be used to analyze large datasets and make more accurate predictions, as shown in the article “The future of employment: How susceptible are jobs to computerization? Technological Forecasting and Social Change”, while robots and other automated systems can perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks more efficiently than humans. Frey and Osborne explore the extent to which different occupations are susceptible to computerization, and thus likely to be affected by the rise of artificial intelligence and automation. They use a machine learning algorithm to analyze the tasks and skills associated with hundreds of occupations and develop a measure of their susceptibility to automation based on the estimated probability that they can be computerized. Their results suggest that a large fraction of jobs in the US economy are at risk of automation, particularly those in routine and low-skill occupations. They also find that certain industries, such as transportation and logistics, are particularly vulnerable to disruption from autonomous vehicles and drones. However, as the authors point out, the impact of AI on the workplace will depend on a variety of factors, including the technical feasibility and cost of automation, the skills required to perform different tasks, and the social and regulatory environment in which automation is deployed. Therefore, it is important for workers, employers, and policymakers to carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of AI in the workplace, and to develop strategies for managing the transition to a more automated and technologically advanced economy. 

While AI has undoubtedly brought numerous benefits to the workplace, it also poses some challenges, such as the potential for decreased human interaction and communication. Also, the potential for bias in decision-making processes. Additionally, the use of AI in the workplace can also lead to a reduction in human interaction and communication, which can negatively affect employee morale and collaboration.  According to a recent article from Fox Business, the potential for AI to take over jobs and careers across varying fields is a real concern. In the article, it states, “AI can assist with diagnosing and treating patients, reducing the need for some healthcare workers” This line from the article describes how AI is being used in the healthcare industry to assist with medical diagnosis and treatment planning. By analyzing large amounts of medical data, AI can potentially identify medical conditions and recommend treatment plans. While this can lead to better patient outcomes, it also raises concerns about the role of doctors and nurses in the future of healthcare. Similarly, in finance, “AI can assist with investment analysis and risk management, potentially reducing the need for human analysts.” This line from the article highlights how AI is being used in the finance industry to assist with investment analysis and risk management. By analyzing large amounts of financial data, AI can potentially identify investment opportunities and manage risk. While this can lead to greater efficiency and profitability, it also raises concerns about the potential displacement of financial analysts and other finance professionals. Also, Rayid Ghani, a professor of AI states that “It does make processes more efficient, which means people are going to lose jobs and yes, it will create new jobs, but those jobs are not at the same scale as the jobs lost,” he said. Rayid Ghani’s statement highlights a significant negative impact of AI on the workplace as job displacement. While AI does create new job opportunities, the scale of these jobs is typically not enough to replace the number of jobs lost to automation and AI. This can lead to significant job losses and economic disruption in industries that adopt AI at a rapid pace. It is important for organizations to consider the potential impact of AI on their workforce and take steps to mitigate negative effects, such as reskilling and retraining programs for employees. 

In conclusion, the impact of artificial intelligence in the workplace is significant and complex. While AI has the potential to increase productivity, automate repetitive tasks, and create new job opportunities, it also poses challenges such as potential job displacement, bias in decision-making, and decreased human interaction and communication. As AI continues to advance and transform the job market, it is important for workers, employers, and policymakers to carefully consider the potential benefits and risks, and to develop strategies for managing the transition to a more automated and technologically advanced economy. Additionally, certain skills such as data analysis, programming, and critical thinking will be in high demand as AI is advancing, while jobs that require creativity or human interaction such as teaching or counseling are less likely to be automated. Ultimately, a thoughtful and strategic approach to integrating AI into the workplace is needed to ensure that the benefits of this technology are maximized while minimizing the potential negative impacts.
