Where I’m From

I am from a wild watermelon plant on the other side of the watermelon juice and ice cream field.

I am from a little house on the corner of my little neighborhood where we all played until noon.

I’m from the north where the sun rises in all its splendor, the sunflower that always seeks the sun’s brightness, and the rooster that wakes us up as soon as he comes out. Neighbors say I’m always looking for trouble, they also say I’m an easy person to get along with, I’m from a home that’s not so religious and not so liberal. 

I am from the Dominican Republic, where rice with chicken and beans, and mangü are all you eat.

From the time my sister and I were playing on the road with all of our friends to the time my family was all together celebrating with all the people in our little neighborhood, 

and the time we had to say goodbye to all our friends and family members that we left in DR.

I am from an idiotic family that is always complaining but has your back and pushes you to do better and better.
